PHILIP GLASS // SONG VI from SONGS AND POEMS
Songs and Poems é una straordinaria raccolta di brani per violoncello solo eseguibili per contrabbasso, solo alcuni di essi. Considero la Song VI una vera e propria Ode, una sorta di canto recitato che il contrabbasso può esprimere egregiamente, sfruttando tanto la timbrica quanto la sua intera estensione. “THE MUSICIAN”, il secondo episodio della mini-serie QUARANTINE, vuole esprimere le condizioni dei musicisti durante il periodo di Quarantena, l’incertezza del futuro, l’instancabile speranza riposta nella musica e nel propio strumento, le paure e le rinunce di un mestiere considerato sempre un Ozio, un divertimento, quando invece il dietro le quinte è fatto di sacrifici e sudore. Migliaia di musicisti, attori, operatori dello spettacolo, stanno vivendo una situazione di instabilità e incertezza, congelati in un limbo che si protrarrà per non si sa quanto tempo, senza sapere quando si potrà tornare alla “normalità”, quello che era il sano e meraviglioso rapporto con il pubblico, il teatro, il palcoscenico, il poter suonare il più vicino possibile in orchestra per ascoltarsi meglio ! Sensibilizzare pubblico e addetti ai lavori spetta a noi, in qualsiasi forma, e spero che questa Ode possa servire la causa. Songs and Poems is an extraordinary collection of cello pieces that can only be performed on a double bass, only a few of them. I consider Song VI a real Ode, a sort of recited song that the double bass can express very well, taking advantage of both the timbre and its entire extension. “THE MUSICIAN”, the second episode of the QUARANTINE mini-series, wants to express the conditions of the musicians during the Quarantine period, the uncertainty of the future, the tireless hope placed in the music and its instrument, the fears and renunciations of a job always considered a leisure, a fun, when instead the behind the scenes is made of sacrifices and sweat. Thousands of musicians, actors, operators of the show, are experiencing a situation of instability and uncertainty, frozen in a limbo that will last for no time, without knowing when it will be possible to return to “normal”, what was healthy and wonderful relationship with the public, the theater, the stage, being able to play as close to the orchestra as possible to listen better! Sensitizing the public and professionals is up to us, in any form, and I hope this Ode can serve the cause.
